The 2022 World Cup in Qatar seems a retirement tournament for most of the eye catching players for the recent two decades and the question amongst football fanatics across the world has always been, “who is the next big thing” in the beautiful game?

With Ronaldo, Messi, Lewandowski, Benzema, Luca Modric, Luis Suarez all destined for retirement, Halaand looks to been taking on the reigns as the news headliner for football stories.

The Norwegian who signed for Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund for £51.2m has a wealth of records despite only being aged 22.

With 26 champions league goals already to his name, the former Dortmund sensational forward is the youngest player to reach the milestone, a feat he reached last year when he hit 20 goals at 21 years last year.

Mark you, with 25 goals in the first 20 champions league matches, he is the fastest to hit the milestone in fewer matches, only six goals fewer than the top four Uefa Champions League scorers of all-time combined, Karim Benzema-12, Robert Lewandowski-11, Lionel Messi-8, Cristiano Ronaldo-0.

With 21 goals in 23 international matches, Halaand is only 13 goals away from overtaking Jörgen Juve (33) to become the top men’s scorer in the nation’s history.

Son to former Manchester City player Alfie Haaland, Erling Haaland has scored 103 league goals in 128 appearances in total in spells at Molde (Norway), Red Bull Salzburg (Austria), Borussia Dortmund (Germany) and at Manchester City (England).

At only 22 years and already with 170 goals all together, Halaand is no where close to what the two aces of world football in the last two decades managed. At the same age, Ronaldo managed 50 and Messi 44, combining for 94, almost half what the Norwegian has so far scored, wow!

Halaand is undoubtably the big thing to watch out for in the next decade!
