After almost three months of closure of schools in Uganda due to the second wave of Covid19 , schools are expected to reopen their gates to students in a phased manner.
By the time schools closed in June 2021, staggered reopening was ongoing following the closure that ushered in a total lockdown meant disruption of the revised school calendar.
Now, an August 30 meeting between education ministry officials on one side and district and municipal officials, and heads of several education bodies agreed to reopen schools.
The participants in the stakeholders’ meeting agreed that learners had lost a lot of valuable time and there was no need to wait for more months before schools can reopen.
The two weeks under consideration are the first 14 days (two weeks) of next month (September 2021).
The revelation that schools will reopen in just two weeks is already raising questions of whether there has been enough preparedness to allow learners, parents and schools enough time to play their part.
