Is there a royal baby on the way in Busoga? Speculation has been ignited after photos from a recent royal dinner celebrating Kyabazinga William Nadiope’s 36th birthday showed Queen Jovia Mutesi with what appeared to be a growing baby bump.

The royal couple, who married on November 18, 2023, at a grand ceremony, has kept their personal life relatively private. However, the appearance of these photos has led many to wonder if the Inhebantu of Busoga is expecting her first child with the Kyabazinga.

The couple’s journey to this point was highlighted during a reception at Stage House in May, where President Museveni took a moment to celebrate the Kyabazinga’s new chapter in married life. Speaking fondly of the monarch, Museveni shared how he had long urged King Nadiope to find a wife and settle down, emphasizing the cultural importance of marriage in building wealth and community.

“For years, I urged the king to find a wife and settle down,” President Museveni said. “We Africans, once we grow up, we must get a wife. It’s not just about being there; it’s part of okwombeka (building) in our culture. Building isn’t just about erecting structures—it’s also about having a wife and creating wealth.”

In his speech, Museveni also showered praise on Queen Jovia, describing her as “beautiful and well-educated.” He highlighted her financial expertise, revealing that she is a skilled financial analyst, and promised to work closely with her to put her qualifications to good use in government.

“She came as a highly accomplished individual,” Museveni noted. “She told me she is a financial analyst, and I will ensure her qualifications are utilized effectively.”

The President affectionately referred to King Nadiope as “my son” and to Queen Jovia as his “daughter-in-law,” and ended his address by gifting the royal couple 100 cows as a symbol of his support and well-wishes.
