In a weekly press briefing today, Ugandan security officials clarified the circumstances surrounding the removal of popular TikTok content creator, Muzungu Boda. Contrary to claims that he was deported, authorities emphasized that he was "removed" from the country due to his activities violating visa regulations, now he has replied them.
Police revealed that Muzungu Boda, who entered Uganda on a tourist visa, was discovered running a charity organization and producing content that required a work permit. According to the officials, engaging in such activities without proper documentation is a violation of immigration laws, warranting his organized removal rather than deportation.
Police Statement:
“If a foreigner is caught working on a visitor’s visa, they are removed from the country, which is different from deportation. Removal means the individual can return after fulfilling the required procedures, including obtaining a valid work permit.”
Additionally, security officials expressed concerns about some of Muzungu Boda’s content, describing it as "not African-like." One highlighted example involved the creator being filmed kissing a stranger in public and subsequently throwing money at her, an act authorities deemed culturally insensitive.
Muzungu Boda himself addressed the issue on his X account (formerly Twitter), though details of his response remain sparse.
"I’ll be back as soon as I can. I don’t like my country anymore, after being in Uganda, nothing feels like home"- he tweeted.
While officials reiterated that the removal process does not bar his return, they urged foreigners operating in Uganda to comply with immigration laws by securing appropriate permits for work or charitable activities.
