The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) officially released the timetable for the 2024 national exams, which will see over 1.3 million candidates sit for various examinations in the new Curriculum starting October, for Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).
According to the UNEB Executive Director, Dan N. Odongo, this year's exams come with a renewed focus on integrity and security while adapting to changes in the education curriculum. He emphasized that the board is committed to ensuring a fair, secure, and comprehensive assessment process.
“We are dedicated to upholding the integrity and security of our examinations while adopting a holistic approach to assess students,” Odongo stated during the timetable release.
UNEB reports a 7.8% rise in the number of candidates this year, with 1,320,400 students registered for the exams. Notably, female candidates make up 51.1% of the total candidates, underscoring the growing participation of girls in education. The Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) has seen the highest jump in registration, with a 28.4% increase, while the PLE has recorded a 6.6% rise in candidates.
As the examination period approaches, UNEB has issued a strong reminder to candidates, parents, and educators to avoid any form of malpractice. Odongo warned that any involvement in malpractice could result in the cancellation of results and potential legal consequences.
