Singer Bebe Cool recently came to the defense of Eddy Kenzo, following public criticism from music producer and artist Daddy Andre, who accused Kenzo of being “illiterate” and unqualified as a presidential advisor on creatives. Daddy Andre, in various weekend interviews, dismissed Kenzo’s ability to contribute meaningfully to Uganda’s creative sector, alleging he merely “milks money from the government.”

Responding in a TikTok live session, Bebe Cool called out Daddy Andre’s comments as disrespectful, asserting that Kenzo has tirelessly worked to improve creatives' access to government support.

Acknowledging his past doubts about Kenzo, Bebe Cool praised Kenzo's dedication to strengthening the creative industry’s relationship with government, emphasizing that similar to other sectors, the arts need government backing.

Bebe Cool argued that artists should not be “criminalized” for advocating for sector funding, reminding Daddy Andre that a role as a presidential advisor is earned, not achieved through “reckless” public statements. Bebe went further, attributing Andre’s comments to jealousy, suggesting he may have hoped for the advisory position himself.

In Bebe Cool’s view, collaboration with the government is essential for meaningful progress in Uganda's entertainment scene.

This clash has highlighted the ongoing division within the Ugandan music industry regarding government involvement, as some artists view official partnerships with suspicion, while others, like Bebe Cool and Kenzo, support the push for more institutional support.
