Uganda U-20 national football team nick named "The Hippos" made it to the semi finals for the first time in history when they won 5:3 in the Penalty shootouts.

After a resilient display from the hardworking Hippos after full time and extra time, goalkeeper Jack Komakech was the hero in the penalty shoot out when he saved Yacoub’s kick from the spot-the first attempt for the Burkinabes.

The Hippos scored all their kicks to win 5:3 and thus edge close to winning the USD 200,000 (UGX740M) winning cash prize promised by FUFA if they win the tournament.

Uganda will now face the winner between Tunisia and Morocco in the other semifinals to be played on Friday 26th February,2021 at 7pm.

The Hippos making it to the last four teams of the tournament would have normally qualified for the 2021 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia as the CAF representatives. However, FIFA decided to cancel the tournament on 24 December 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic.
