Legendary Ugandan singer Jose Chameleone is turning a brand-new page in his life—and this time, it’s smoke-free and sober after months of battling acute pancreatitis that had him bedridden in the U.S.

The Leone Island boss is making serious lifestyle changes. While speaking to the press after returning from a medical review in Kenya, Chameleone opened up about his long-time addiction to alcohol and smoking, and why he’s finally letting it all go.

“I have been flipping bottles and enjoying myself, and I have been a smoker all my life. But for the sake and goodness of myself and my health, I put all that aside. I don’t drink or smoke anymore.”

The hitmaker, now in recovery, flew back to Uganda to a hero’s welcome—surrounded by fans, friends, and family who were just grateful to see him alive and well. But it’s not just a return—it’s a rebirth.

“That was the second round. God has given me episodes; that is the past now I started the second round. I’m just a few years away to fifty so I have to slow down,” he shared.

To mark this fresh chapter, Chameleone and his loved ones held a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Joseph Lweza Church, thanking God for the gift of life. For the singer, who’s now proudly calling himself a “God-fearing man,” faith was the first line of healing before the doctors stepped in.

“People must know that I’m a God-fearing person and a believer. I put God ahead of everything. Before the doctors did their job, God did his own. God was the first healer.”
