Rice King Salim Uhuru Wins Kampala Central Division Mayoral Race, Stings NUP for Loosing

Kampala Rice King, Salim Saad Uhuru from National Resistance Movement (NRM) has been announced as the winner of the Kampala Central Division Mayor seat after a tough election that saw him gather 13k votes.

Mr. Uhuru was declared elected winner and new Mayor by the Kampala Central Returning Officer, Doreen Musiime on Tuesday at 5 am

Ms. Musiime said Uhuru garnered 13,114 votes against 10,654 votes garnered by his closest and National Unity Platform rival, Hamudan Kigozi Semugoma.

The incumbent Kampala Central Mayor and Democratic Party candidate, Charles Musoke Sserunjogi came third with 5,318 votes only followed by independent candidate, Patrick Mugisa with 2,095 and Lameck Sewanyana, another Independent candidate garnered 820 votes.

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate Isah Ssemaganda got 531 votes followed independent candidate, George Wakula with 312 votes.

Other candidates in the race were Independent candidate Isaya Kavuma who managed 166 votes while another independent candidate, Emmanuel Tebajjukira trailed with 79 votes.

Uhuru is the first NRM candidate to defy NUP wave in Kampala District and He told reporters that he is honoured to have been voted by Kampala central voters including NUP supporters.
