Three G4S Security Guards Steal 1.5Billion from a Bullion Van, One Caught and Arrested with 150M

Uganda Police together with Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) are investigating three G4S security Guards who stole Ugx1.5Billion from one of the transportation vans in Kampala. One was caught with Ugx. 150Million hidden in the floor of his grass thatched hut in Northern Uganda.

According to Blizz Uganda trusted sources, this heist reportedly took place on November 19, 2024, when three guards diverting a bullion van, registration number UAJ 199T, during a routine transfer of funds from Lubowa to Nakasero. 

Apparently, they stopped the van, parked it on the side of the road, collected out all the cash leaving the one in the uni-sec boxes, they got all their guns and threw them into the back of the van and left it parked by the roadside.

Via GPS tracking. the vehicle was later found abandoned in Nabunya, Rubaga Division, with cash missing as the police has confirmed.

“The stolen cash amounted to One Billion, Sixty-Nine Million, Four Hundred and Twenty Thousand Ugandan Shillings (UGX 1,069,420,000) and USD 14,474,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.

Meanwhile, according to reports, one of the guards has been swiftly arrested and has been identified as Otim Ambrose Richard, in Kwania District in Northern Uganda where he was found in possession of UGX 150 million, believed to be part of the stolen funds which he had buried in the floor of his hut.

The search for additional suspects and the remaining stolen funds continues as police intensify efforts to resolve the case.
