More than 170 People Die in Riot at a Football Match in Indonesia, Watch What Happened

Calamity has befallen the beautiful game of football after a riot arisen when the supporters of Arema football club stormed the pitch in protest of the first home defeat by a rival club in 23 years.

Persebaya FC beat Arema 3:2, with goals from Silvio Rodriguez Pereira Junior, Leo Lelis and Sho Yamamoto gave the former the win and the first in 23 years, a thing that made Arema FC fans go crazy. Abel Camara scores the two goals for the losers.

Reports by Sky Sports indicate that close to 174 people lost their lives in the tragedy. Fans fumed, set Police’s vehicles ablaze and in return Police was forced to tear gas the whole pitch, triggering commotion, pushing and shoving amongst thousands of spectators resulting into death.

FIFA Condemns and does not support teargassing football supporters but the unruly environment left Police without option but to defy odds.

Speaking of the the incident, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said....

"The football world is in a state of shock following the tragic incidents that have taken place in Indonesia at the end of the match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya at the Kanjuruhan Stadium”.

"Together with FIFA and the global football community, all our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, those who have been injured, together with the people of the Republic of Indonesia, the Asian Football Confederation, the Indonesian Football Association, and the Indonesian Football League, at this difficult time."

Joko Widodo the President of Indonesia showed his grief on tragedy saying... "I deeply regret this tragedy and I hope this is the last soccer tragedy in this country. Don't let another human tragedy like this happen in the future," he said.

"We must continue to maintain sportsmanship, humanity and a sense of brotherhood of the Indonesian nation."

The president has ordered sports minister Zainudin Amali, national police chief and chairman of the PSSI to carry out a full investigation into the match and its security arrangements.
