Brigadier-General Charles Oluka, the Director General of Uganda’s Internal Security Organisation (ISO), sadly passed away at the age of 56 after suffering heart complications on January 30, 2025, after a prolonged battle.
His passing was confirmed by military sources, including Deputy Defence Spokesperson Col. Deo Akiiki. Reports indicate that Brig Gen Oluka had traveled abroad for medical treatment last year, accompanied by his wife and personal doctor.
On the evening of January 30, tragedy struck when Oluka collapsed at home after returning from prayers. Despite emergency efforts to save him, he was rushed to Doctor’s Hospital Sseguku, along Entebbe Road, where he was pronounced dead.
Brig Gen Oluka took over the helm of ISO in October 2020, succeeding Col. Frank Bagyenda, whose tenure faced scrutiny over intelligence failures. Under Oluka’s leadership, ISO undertook major security operations, notably the crackdown on the Masaka machete killings in 2021, which claimed nearly 30 lives.
His strong presence in joint security briefings and dedication to apprehending criminals earned him respect within Uganda’s security apparatus.
His sudden demise shocked many, leaving a significant gap in the country’s security leadership.
Details regarding his burial arrangements are expected to be announced soon.
