President Yoweri Museveni has directed Police and all security agencies to hunt down and arrest people who use social media to spread false news that he is dead.
The fake reports mostly on Facebook and Whatsapp groups first claimed that the President had been admitted in Europe with Covid19.
First Son and Commander Land Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba was also not spared by the fake news, as was declared dead too.
Speaking Thursday at the swearing in of the ministers that missed the main cabinet inauguration, Museveni said such characters should be arrested for causing panic in the public.
“Another problem we need to solve…I don’t think it is a security problem but an idiotic problem… is the social media, Now the other day when I went to Bombo to lay a foundation stone people were looking (worried) because they had been told by social media that Museveni is dead.” Museveni said.
“The security needs to solve that problem; I need to check with them. They need to locate quickly the person who is sharing such information because you waste people’s time. They should go for you, and if you are in Europe we denounce you.”
Museveni on the other hand warned groups that have been causing insecurity in the Karamoja region saying Government is reviving its operations in the region.
