A group of some of Uganda’s most influential music video directors have joined forces to launch Frame The Beat, a hands-on training workshop aimed at nurturing young filmmakers and elevating the country’s music video industry.

Led by Marvin Musoke, Aaronaire On Set, Edrine Paul, and Simon SPK, all renowned for their work on some of Uganda’s most celebrated music videos, the workshop will run from February 17th to 21st, 2025, at Cams & Grip Film Studios, Busabala.

Participants will gain first-hand experience in music video production, working on a real project for Ugandan music group B2C.

Despite the growth of Uganda’s music and entertainment industry, many aspiring filmmakers face barriers to entry due to limited training opportunities and mentorship.

Frame The Beat seeks to bridge this gap by offering:

  • Expert training in directing, cinematography, editing, and post-production.
  • Hands-on experience working on a professionally produced music video.
  • Networking opportunities with industry professionals and potential employers.
  • Business insights into branding, marketing, and navigating the film industry.

Speaking about the initiative, filmmaker Marvin Musoke emphasized the importance of practical training in shaping the next generation of video directors.
"The Ugandan music industry has grown tremendously, but the quality of music videos needs to match international standards. Through this workshop, we aim to equip young creatives with the technical and creative skills required to produce world-class content."

The Ugandan film and music video industry has seen notable improvements in recent years, but many industry leaders believe more structured training programs are needed to compete on the global stage. The Frame The Beat initiative aims to provide continuous mentorship beyond the workshop, setting a new standard for music video production in the country.

In addition to the training sessions, the workshop will feature insights from top industry professionals, covering aspects such as pre-production planning, scriptwriting, camera techniques, lighting, post-production, and marketing strategies.

With plans to expand regionally, the Frame The Beat team hopes to train filmmakers across East Africa, ensuring that young creatives in rural and underserved areas also have access to quality education in film production.

Uganda’s entertainment sector has seen increasing demand for high-quality visual content, driven by digital platforms like YouTube, Boomplay, and Apple Music. By training more skilled professionals, Frame The Beat aims to enhance production quality, attract global audiences, and create job opportunities within Uganda’s film and music industries.
