Uganda’s incumbent president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has become the first candidate to be successfully nominated ahead of the forthcoming Uganda General Elections 2021.

As the National Resistance Movement -NRM Chairman and official flag bearer of the party, Museveni who was accompanied by his wife Janet Kataha Museveni, was nominated by Nassur Gaddafi the National Chairman NRM Youth League and Hellen Seku an NRM supporter from the district of Kamuli.

After being nominated, Yoweri Museveni thanked his nominators Gaddafi and Seku, his team which was led by NRM vice-chairperson Al-Hajj Moses Kigongo and the Secretary General, Justine Lumumba. He also thanked NRM supporters who signed his endorsement forms. He went ahead and promised to avail the NRM Manifesto later in the day where he will give full details of his 2021-2026 materialization.

More other 9 candidates are expected to get nominated in the two day exercise that has started today and will run up to tomorrow. Unlike the past nomination events, this event is having strict rules limiting the number of people in the entourage and also banning any processions, rallies and assemblies due to the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19.

Here is his full speech after nomination

I have been duly nominated by the Electoral Commission as a candidate for the 2021 presidential election. I thank my nominators, the two young people, Nassur Gaddafi and Hellen Seku.

I also thank the rest of my entourage led by the NRM vice-chairperson Al-Hajj Moses Kigongo and the Secretary General, Justine Lumumba. Special gratitude to our supporters in the districts who signed my endorsement forms.

At this nomination, I would want to emphasise two points; measures against the Covid-19 pandemic and security.

Covid-19 is deadly and is killing our people. In recent days, among others, we lost an environment expert, Paul Mafabi, and my good friend, Francis Xavier Kitaka, the veterinary expert and entrepreneur.

Do not take this disease lightly. The talk that the villages are insulated from Covid-19 is false. Please follow all guidelines of health experts.

Sanitize, wear masks and observe social distancing.
