Comedian Sammy Okanya, famously known from Da Mighty Family, is being charged with 'common nuisance,' as he was remanded to Luzira Prison following a court appearance that lacked the presence of his legal team.
The dramatic courtroom scene went down at Buganda Road Magistrate's Court, where Okanya was presented before the Magistrate, State Attorney, and court clerk, while his lawyers were left waiting outside. According to NUP Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya, the comedian was "smuggled" into court, with no legal representation present.
Rubongoya also revealed that Okanya endured alleged mistreatment by military personnel during his time at Central Police Station (CPS). Despite the hardships, Rubongoya asserts that Okanya's spirit remains unbroken as he continues to stand firm in the struggle.
Okanya will return to court on August 19 for his bail application, as the public watches closely to see how this high-profile case unfolds.
