Just like Jonah in the Bible who was swallowed by the fish and later spit out, a two year old boy in Kasese will grow up telling the same story as he was over the weekend swallowed by a hippopotamus that later vomited him out while still alive.

According to the Uganda Police, in a statement released out to the Public, this incident took place at Katwe-Kabatooro town council in Kasese district near Lake Katwe when a hippopotamus took advantage of an unattended two baby identified as Paul Yiga and swallowed him.

“The two year old boy was swallowed by hippopotamus when the parents had left him unattended to. The hippo found the two year old playing and it swallowed him,” Enanga said in a statement.

However, halfway the swallowing, locals realized the boy was missing and made alarms.

“When people noticed, they started shouting and making all forms of noise as the hippo was finding its way back to the lake. On hearing the noise, the hippo miraculously vomited the boy.”- he added.

The police spokesperson said the victim was later rushed to Bwera hospital for treatment and he later gained consciousness and currently fine.

It took the bravery of a one Chrispas Bagonza, who was nearby, to save the victim after he stoned the hippo and scared it, causing it to release the victim from its mouth. The victim was immediately rushed for treatment to a nearby clinic, for injuries on the hand and later transferred to Bwera Hospital for further treatment. He recovered fully and was discharged, after receiving a vaccine for rabies. He was thereafter, handed over to the parents by police.

Although the hippo was scared back into the lake, all residents near animal sanctuaries and habitats, should know that wild animals are very dangerous. Instinctually, wild animals see humans as a threat and any interaction can cause them to act strangely or aggressively.
