The Ministry of Education and Sports with immediate effect has suspended all school visitation days, Prom / Leavers parties and any kind of gatherings until the end of the current school term over the outbreak of Ebola Virus.
In a letter dated today, 28th Oct, the ministry of education has prohibited Learners in boarding institutions from making non-essential trips out of the school.
“Given that some positive cases have now been confirmed among learners from families of known contacts, it is necessary to strengthen the existing infection prevention measures at school level.
In this regard, the Ministry of Education and Sports has, with immediate effect, suspended all school visitation days and leavers parties until the end of the current school term. Learners in boarding institutions should also be discouraged from making non-essential trips out of the school.
On the advice of MoH and the National Taskforce, institutions of learning have remained open. However, as per our earlier circular, the management of all learning institutions are required to take extra care to ensure effective Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) by strictly observing and implementing the Standard Operating Procedures provided by the Ministry of Health."- reads part of MoE’s letter signed by Ismael Mulindwa.
On Wednesday, The Minister of Health, Dr Jane Aceng announced that six children from three schools in Rubaga Division, Kampala, tested positive for Ebola and were undergoing supportive treatment at the Entebbe treatment unit.
The children are said to have been infected by their uncle who came from Kassanda District and slept over at their home in Rubaga, before he was taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment from where he succumbed to Ebola.
