Uganda Cranes played their first match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers and lost 2:0 to 2019 Champions Algeria.
Aissa Mandi (28’) and Mohamed Youcef Belaili (80’) scored for the “Desert Warriors” who currently lead group F with 3 points.
Uganda Cranes who had a lot of changes in the squad looked shapeless in the match, disjointed, disoriented and also missed a penalty that was recklessly taken by once a hot cake, Miya Farouq.
In the other group F match played on the day, Niger played a 1 all draw with Tanzania in Niger with Daniel Sosah (26’) and George Mpole (1’) scoring for the respective sides.
Uganda Cranes will resume action on Wednesday 8th June when they lock horns with Niger at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende in what will be the second match of qualification for both sides.
