Following the travel ban imposed on all Ugandans, essential workers were allowed to travel with their vehicles but still, one needs to have a sticker. These stickers will be obtained after one applying online. We have all the steps to be followed.

The Government through the Ministry of Works and Transport starting next week will start the issuance of travel permits to the essential works who have been allowed exception to travel with vehicles during the second national lockdown which started yesterday, Friday.

The groups that will be allowed to travel include; health workers, patients, select government workers as well as people working in key sectors such as banking, utilities and mass communication and many others.

President Yoweri Museveni while announcing the lockdown yesterday, ordered the Ministry Works to issue special permits for such groups.

The Ministry, it is understood, will carry out this exercise on online.

How to Apply for Covid Travel Sticker / Permit:

  • Applicants through their employers will download a movement request form from Ministry of Works website.
  • This form will then be filled and submitted to the same link with names of the health workers and other essential workers that will be working throughout this period.
  • The Ministry of Works and Transport will either accept or deny permission of the request. Feedback will be communicated through the same link where a movement permit will be generated once permission is granted.

The movement permit will have a QR code, names of the essential worker, name of the place of work and the National Identification Number (NIN). The permit will still be down loaded from the MoWT provided online link.

While issuing guidelines for its health workers on Saturday morning, Ministry of Health advised them to “move with the movement permit, their work identification cards and those without should those be given authorization letters by the heads of the health facilities to enable easy movement to their respective facilities.”

Patients catered for under the transport exception are; emergency patients, scheduled patients for drug refills (HIV/AIDS, Diabetes, Cancer and hypertension) and those with scheduled clinic appointments.
