Comedian Messe Bontwe’s Body Finally Flown Back Home for Burial from USA

Comedian Nicholas Mpiirwe, popularly known as DJ Messe Bontwe, a founding member of the Amarula Family comedy group, will finally be laid to rest on Monday, January 20th, 2025, at his ancestral home in Rwampala District following his death on December 12th, 2024, in the United States, where he had been living in pursuit of new opportunities.

Messe's body is being brought back to Uganda and will arrive on January 16th, 2025. Preparations have been made for a series of events where family, friends, and fans will gather to honor his legacy.

Final Journey Schedule

Here’s a detailed program for the farewell events:

  • 16th January 2025 (Thursday):
    The body will arrive in Uganda and be handed over to Executive Funeral Services before being taken to a funeral home.
  • 17th January 2025 (Friday):
    A memorial service will be held at Munyonyo Church of Uganda, after which the body will be taken to his residence in Kabuuma.
  • 18th January 2025 (Saturday):
    A special tribute viewing will take place at the National Theatre to allow his peers in the art and entertainment fraternity to pay their respects.
  • 19th January 2025 (Sunday):
    The body will be transported to his ancestral home in Rwampala District.
  • 20th January 2025 (Monday):
    The final burial ceremony will take place at 2:00 PM in Rwampala District.

Messe Bontwe was a pioneer in Uganda’s comedy industry, captivating audiences with his unique humor and stage presence as part of the Amarula Family, a household name in Uganda's entertainment scene. His passing has left a void in the hearts of many, but his legacy lives on through the laughter and memories he shared with his fans.
