President Museveni Appoints Maj. Gen. Abel Kandiho as Senior Presidential Advisor

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has recalled Maj Gen Abel Kandiho, he former Chief of Military Intelligence,  from police and appointed him as a senior presidential advisor with immediate effect.

In the Friday changes in the police, Kandiho was recalled from the force and according to the message, he has been appointed to the president’s office as a senior presidential advisor but the president is yet to specify details of the new position.

President Museveni has also not yet named his replacement in police.

The changes also saw Senior Commissioner of Police, Felix Baryamwisaki appointed director for ICT in the police force to replace Yusuf Ssewanyana.

President Museveni in 2022 reversed Kandiho’s earlier appointment to South Sudan and appointed him to police.

He had been sent to monitor on behalf of the guarantors, the assembling, screening, demobilization and integration of the armed forces of South Sudan but barely three weeks after the deployment, he was recalled.

As the Chief of Joint Staff, Maj Gen Kandiho served as the “head boy” of all police directors where he brought  a wealth of experience especially in terms of carry out intelligence led operations and investigations.

Kandiho joins a host of other UPDF officers including Maj Gen Godfrey Tumusiime Katsigazi and Brig Godfrey Golooba who have been recalled from the police.
