The incident unfolded at Musinde, a section of Garuga Road, as students were en route to a beach gathering. Eyewitnesses reported that the collision occurred when the Toyota Rumion attempted to overtake another vehicle, leading to a catastrophic crash with the parked soda truck.
Sadly, four students lost their lives in the collision, while two others sustained severe injuries. The injured students were swiftly transported to Kisubi Hospital for urgent medical attention, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
According to preliminary reports from the authorities, the driver of the Toyota Rumion, himself a student from Buganda Royal Institute, was allegedly engaged in speeding at the time of the incident. Witnesses also mentioned a Toyota Hiace trailing behind, indicating a potential connection to the events leading up to the collision.
Michael Kananura, spokesperson for the traffic police, shared insights into the ongoing investigation. He revealed that the bodies of the deceased have been transferred to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examinations as part of the investigative process.
