NBS TV reporter, Solomon Serwanjja, is “thrilled” yet again, this time because his popular NBS Investigates story, “Stealing from the Sick,” which he did in collaboration with the BBC, has been nominated in the Investigative Documentary category of the AIBs (Association for International Broadcasting).

Serwanjja, currently undergoing training at the BBC headquarters following his winning of the 2019 Komla Dumor Award, exposed government officials and other medical practitioners who were involved in the illegal sale of drugs meant for government hospitals.

“I am so happy and thrilled that the ‘Stealing from the Sick’ investigation that was done by the BBC Africa Eye and NBS TV has been shortlisted for the Association for International Broadcasting Awards 2019 which celebrates excellence in broadcast journalism,” Sserwanja told us from London, England.

Serwanjja believes this should be yet another win that Ugandan and African journalists can be recognized as this story was.

“It is a vote of confidence in Uganda,  African journalism and investigative journalism as a whole, but also the passion to go and tell the African story, I am so overwhelmed,” he said, adding, “This for me is encouraging to other journalists, especially those that go an extra mile to tell these stories, to question people in power and to be the voices to the voiceless, to see that we can be part of the change we all want in our communities.”

For Serwanjja, this recognition is worth even more than a million dollars. The award ceremony is set for 6th November. Good luck, Solomon.
