Express FC made revenge to its fullest when they visited and beat SC Villa 2:1 in the country’s oldest football rivalry match played at FUFA Technical Center Njeru. The win was Express FC’s 9th in 27 meetings between the sides with SC Villa winning ten times and eight being draws.
SC Villa got the lead as early as the 5th minute through Isaac Ogwang but Express FC equalized six minutes later through Amir Kakomo’s own goal in the 11th minute to leave the match leveled. Express FC however got a goal that later turned into a winner when Eric Kambale slotted in past SC Villa goalkeeper Martin Ssenkooto at the stroke of full time.
Express FC goalkeeper Chris Kusiima had a wonderful display on the day that won him a man of the match plaque of 100,000/- from Pilsner Lager.
It was a real revenge to the SC Villa side that ejected the reigning Uganda Premier League champions from the Uganda Cup at the round of 32 on penalty shootouts recently.
The wins leaves the Red Eagles 5th on the table with 39 points after 24 matches whereas SC are 12th on 25 points, only three points above relegation.
