The ministry of finance has announced that it has slashed the budget over UGx 700 million for the burial of the fallen speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah after yesterday’s social media uproar.
The original budget of over shs2.5bn was first revealed by the Daily Monitor newspaper yesterday morning caused a hailstorm of criticism from the public both on social media and traditional media.
“As Ministry of Finance, we have been able to revise it downwards from shs2.4bn to shs1.8bn. All of the expenditure that can be done away with have been done away with,” State Minister for Finance in charge of general duties, Mr Henry Musaasizi told the press.
Oulanyah’s body arrives in the country on Friday April 1, on 3rd and 4th the body lies at his home in Muyenga, on Tuesday April 5 the body will lie in state at parliament, it will be airlifted to his village Larogi in Omoro district for final respect by family on 6th and 7th, and will be buried on Friday 8, April.
