State Minister for Higher Education, Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo has come out and confirmed the dates for the full reopening of primary and secondary schools after almost two years of closure.
While a tentative leaked school calendar had put the reopening date as January 03, Minister Muyingo has said the date is a week longer.
Speaking during the inaugural graduation of Basasira Technical Institute in Nakasongola District on December 03, Minister Muyingo said all was set for schools to reopen on January 10, 2022.
“You are aware that we have been opening the education sector in phases. In September, we opened medical and health training institutions, followed by universities and other tertiary institutions on November 01. Now, the rest of the classes, including primary and secondary, will fully reopen on January 10,” revealed Muyingo.
But the date may depend on Parliament’s response since the reopening program and calendar are yet to be presented before the House. It is after parliamentary approval that the program and calendar will officially be released to the general public.
In the meantime Muyingo has advised parents to prepare for reopening. He also warned no staff will be allowed to access schools unless they have been fully vaccinated.
