At least two people have been confirmed dead and several others injured after an explosion hit a passenger bus in Mpigi district, Central Uganda on Monday evening.

The cause of the explosion remains unclear even though security services are yet to determine if it were a bomb.

The incident occurred at Lugala in Mpigi as the popular ‘Swift’ bus moved passengers from Ishaka, Bushenyi in western Uganda to Kampala.

The explosion on the bus, registration number UAU 989T, caused a traffic gridlock along Kampala-Masaka road.

However, the development comes at a time the country is struggling to recover from last Saturday’s bomb attack in Komamboga, Kampala where one person was killed and several others injured.

Terrorist group, Islamic State claimed responsibility for last week’s attack.
