In case you haven’t noticed, nothing about weddings in Uganda is basic anymore. From the décor to the guest lists, Ugandans have taken their weddings slay to a whole new level.
So when celebrity photographer, Walter keys was being united with his love, Leticia Nabukalu, in a traditional wedding ceremony, he turned to the Fashion Designer Kaijuka Abbas. For his pre wedding shots, Abbas turned this pair into Egyptian royalty with their custom made robes.
These were coupled with a kikoyi themed look, on which he collaborated with designer Fatuma Asha, that was part of the couple’s attires worn for their traditional wedding that took place yesterday in Munyonyo.
‘I believe a wedding is one of the most special days in anyone’s life, and possibly one of those occasions that allow for you to be as extra as you want. So, when Walter told me what he was trying to achieve for this look, I had to think of something that would make a statement, and also have them looking stunning. So, we decided to custom make these Egyptian robes. And to keep the kiganda element going as well, we created these kikoyi detailed pieces for the second look,’ Abbas explains.
The fashion designer who just returned from his showcase in Nigeria is famous for his statement wedding attires for celebrity weddings in Uganda, with the most memorable one being the West African inspired collection he created for Singer, Rema Namakula’s wedding a few years ago.
