COVID-19: Uganda Confirms First Coronavirus Case at Entebbe Airport

Ministry of Health Uganda (MOH) has confirmed the first Corona Virus Disease case in Uganda on March 21st 2020. The victim is a 36 year old Ugandan male who arrived on Saturday 21st from Dubai aboard Ethiopian Airlines at 2:00am who is a resident of Kibuli Kakungulu.

Whereas he did not have Flu and Cough which are the main symptoms of COVID-19, the victim had symptoms of high fever and had low appetite. During screening the victim had high temperatures of 38.7 degrees Celsius which prompted authorities to isolate him at the airport.

He was evacuated to Entebbe Grade B Hospital for follow up and a nasal swab was taken for analysis and where he tested positive of the disease.

Uganda has been one of the few countries that had not yet reported the case of the pandemic that started in Wuhan China in December 2019 spreading to more than 160 Countries and territories worldwide infecting over 300,000 people with over 12,000 confirmed dead.

The Ministry of Health has asked Ugandans to remain calm and vigilant and to report any person who shows symptoms similar to those of Coronavirus Disease 2019.

“The public is hereby requested to remain calm and vigilant and to report any suspected cases, call our toll-free lines on 0800-203-033 and 0800-100-066” Minister Jane  Ruth Aceng said during the mid night press conference.
