The Pepsi Uganda University football League entered day two as Kumi University hosted and lost 2:1 to Kampala International University in Kumi district.

KIU scored through Wampamba Joel in the 45th minute with the second coming from Ssonko Fredrick in the 79 minute.

Kumi University had equalised through Okema James in the 53rd minute but but Sonko Frederic cancelled it out when he scored the match winning goal in the 79tn minute.

The league continues on Friday, 14th February, 2020 as Busitema University host Uganda Martyrs in Busitema at 2:30 PM.

Former champions Uganda Martyrs University begin their 2020 Pepsi Uganda University Football League campaign tomorrow Friday away at Busitema University.

Uganda Martyrs who finished 4th last season after losing the Third Place Play-Off to Bugema University are determined to challenge for the title this season but must focus first on getting out of their group that also has two time champions Kampala University.

“Last season we missed out narrowly on making it to the finals and on winning bronze. In both games we lost on penalties,” said Uganda Martyrs team manager Ssali Tony.

“This season we want to make it to the finals and lift the trophy but first we need to make sure we get out of the group stage. The new format is tricky and if one is not focused they can easily miss out,” Ssali added.

Uganda Martyrs will be without 4 players from last season who include Mutaawe Atanaas and Mbigo Livingstone, the two graduated, Ssempala Ronald who joined Bright Stars and Lukwago Nasser who played the maximum of 4 seasons.

This will be the first meeting in the league between the two teams and Busitema University coach Muganga Stanley believes his team will put up a good display at their home ground after last season’s 5-0 quarter final loss to eventual champions Uganda Christian University.

“Last year in October we exited at the quarter-final stage losing 9-0 on aggregate to UCU who took the trophy. It was not a good result for us but we have to pick ourselves up and do better,” Muganga said.

“There are few changes to the squad. We have one or two additions and I expect that with the experience the team has from last year we shall do well,” Muganga added.
