Police is Arua is detaining a man identified as Andama Juma 19 years, after he allegedly stole a bus from Arua Bus terminal with 16 passengers driving it away for reasons that are yet to be established.
The incident happened yesterday on Friday morning, when Andama stole a bus belonging to Nile Star Bus Company registration number UBF 618T after finding it parked with passengers inside and drove it away without the approval of the company management.
The Turn Boy of the bus who also entered did not notice that the bus is driven by a stranger who is not the official driver of the company. After driving 5 Kilometers off Kampala Road, at Odianyadri Trading Centre in Vurra sub-county, Arua district, the Turn boy confirmed that the person driving the bus was a wrong person and informed the management who arranged to have the bus brought back to the bus park.
After returning to the park, Andama was attacked and beaten by an angry mob before the Police, which was informed, arrived and intervened to save him and had him given treatment before detaining him at Arua Central Police Station.
“Police was alerted, suspect arrested, treated after being beaten by the angry mob, and detained at Arua Central Police Station” said SP Angucia Josephine the PRO West Nile region.
Police further said that this is the first registered bus robbery of its kind in Arua to have the bus stolen from the Terminal in a broad day light and is arranging to have the suspect taken for mental check up plus following his criminality record.
“Motive of this act is not known but the suspect was taken for medical examination to ascertain his mental status and inquiries are going on in to his past criminal records.” Noted SP Angucia Josephine.
A case of stealing vehicle pursuant to c/s 254(1) and 265 of PCA has been opened with investigations going on under case registration number 2897/2019.
