Musician Bebe Cool has scored a small legal win after court granted him and his forensic team full permission to investigate the Comedy Store UG YouTube channel, owned by comedian Alex Muhangi, to find out just how much money Muhangi might have pocketed from videos featuring the Gagamel boss.
This comes after Bebe Cool dragged Muhangi to court, accusing him of using his content without permission—aka infringing on neighbouring rights.
Basically, he believes he deserves a slice of the digital revenue cake that Comedy Store has allegedly been eating from YouTube views of his performances.
The court has now allowed Bebe’s team to snoop through the channel’s earnings from any content that had Bebe Cool in it.
However, unless Bebe decides to go full steam ahead with the case after the audit, there won’t be any more courtroom drama—for now.
As fans sip tea and wait to see what the forensic team uncovers, the case is already sparking wider convos about how artists and event organizers share digital earnings in this YouTube era.
