Veteran Kadongo Kamu singer Willy Mukabya has declared himself a born-again Christian and launched his own church, with his 19 children forming the first congregation.
The singer shared the news after a special Thanksgiving prayer session, where he expressed gratitude for the gift of life and family. Speaking to the press, Mukabya revealed that he had long felt a divine calling to serve God but had repeatedly ignored it. Now, he believes he is ready to embrace the role of a pastor.
“I dedicated myself to serving my God. I first did it in music, and He has constantly shown me that He wants me to serve Him in words through pastoring His children. I initially ignored the calling, but everywhere I go, people tell me I’m anointed,” he said.
His transition into ministry has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some questioning how quickly he became a pastor. A section of critics has even accused him of using religion as a means to make money, an allegation he strongly refutes.
“All the time I spent on stage was a form of pastoring through music. But when I decide to serve by building a church, it’s going to be the same thing,” he explained.
The church, named Kwebaza Church Center, is currently under construction. Mukabya envisions it as a sanctuary where people can come together in gratitude before making any requests to God.
“In life, we have to be thankful for the small things He has done before we even ask for anything. This step shows how serious I am; that is why I’m here officially,” he emphasized.
Despite stepping into ministry, Mukabya maintains that he will continue making music. As for his signature dreadlocks, he says he is waiting for God’s guidance on whether to keep them or cut them off.
