Media personality and gossip monger Janie Namukasa has publicly expressed remorse after spreading false claims about legendary singer Jose Chameleone. Through her TikTok page, Namukasa had alleged that the ailing singer was detained in the United States for domestic violence against his current caretaker, Juliet Zawedde.
Speaking during her broadcast on Radio 4, Namukasa, alongside her co-hosts, admitted that the rumor originated from idle bloggers in the U.S. who are engaged in personal battles at the expense of others’ reputations.
"People in America should stay away from Dr. Jose Chameleone. They sent me false information with the aim of fighting against our icon. They use people to fight their battles against the people they do not like," she stated.
Following the controversy, Namukasa vowed to be more cautious moving forward, insisting that any gossip brought to her show must first be verified with credible visual evidence. She further claimed that the person who fed her the false information had personal grievances with Chameleone and was also attempting to tarnish her own reputation and career.
Her apology comes at a critical time, as Jose Chameleone, through his lawyers Mwema & Co. Advocates and Solicitors, had served her with a cease-and-desist letter, demanding a public apology and compensation of UGX 100 million within five days for defamation.
Namukasa has not only apologized but also extended her well wishes to the singer, praying for his full recovery and hoping for a grand comeback concert in Kampala.
