Following the passing of Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has pledged to support the education of one of his children, Nagirinya, ensuring she completes her studies today as his body was brought to the Parliament.

During a special parliamentary session held to honor the late Kawempe North MP, Anita Among announced her commitment to provide Nagirinya with an uninterrupted education. She revealed plans to transfer Nagirinya to her school in Bukedea once she completes her primary education.

"As a family in Parliament, we are committed to supporting our own. I will personally take up the responsibility of educating Nagirinya until she completes her studies," Among stated.

Similarly, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister for ICT and National Guidance, also pledged to support another of Ssegirinya’s children, committing to cover their educational expenses until completion.

The special sitting, held after Ssegirinya’s body was brought to Parliament, was marked by heartfelt tributes. Legislators described the late MP as a dedicated leader whose contributions to Uganda’s political landscape will not be forgotten.

To further support Ssegirinya’s family, Parliamentarians agreed to contribute UGX 300,000 each from their salaries.

Ssegirinya’s vigil was held at the NUP headquarters in Makerere Kavule, and preparations are underway for his burial on Sunday, January 12, 2025. He will be laid to rest at his ancestral grounds in Masaka.
