Award-winning artist and President of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), Eddy Kenzo, has revealed the reasons behind his decision to part ways with the Firebase Crew, the music camp led by Bobi Wine where his career first gained momentum.
In a recent interview, Kenzo opened up about growing frustrations with Bobi Wine, the leader of Firebase Crew, accusing him of mimicking his songs. Kenzo shared that his dissatisfaction began after his breakout hit Yanimba, a collaboration with Mikie Wine, caught Bobi Wine's attention. Shortly after, Bobi Wine released Promise, a song that Kenzo believes closely mirrored the sound and style of his track.
The tension only escalated after Kenzo dropped the chart-topping single Sonyiwa Muno. According to Kenzo, Bobi Wine followed up with his own song, Wesotinge, which Kenzo claims had a rhythm similar to his.
“I realized it was no longer just a coincidence. It was clear to me that I needed to make a change,” Kenzo stated, explaining his decision to leave Firebase Crew and pursue his solo career.
Kenzo’s departure marked the beginning of his successful journey as a solo artist, leading to global recognition, but the split still remains a significant chapter in his career trajectory.
