The Ugandan comedy scene has seen remarkable growth over the past few years and at the forefront of this new wave are Sammie and Shawa, a comedy duo known for their socialmedia skits and rib-cracking stage performances, the two have revealed their big dream of organizing the first comedy show in a stadium.

Sammie and Shawa, who met in 2022 during auditions for The Salvador Show, have quickly become a recognized duo in Uganda’s competitive comedy landscape. Their unique brand of humor, showcased in skits like Maama ne Taata Jonah and the Abundancy Series, has gained them a large following, particularly on TikTok and YouTube. Despite their success, the duo feels they’ve only scratched the surface of their potential.

Their dream? To bring comedy to a stadium, a venue traditionally reserved for musicians. “If artists can fill Lugogo Cricket Oval, we believe comedians can too,” said Shawa. "Uganda has many comedy fans, but we often limit them by holding shows in small venues. We want to change that." Their goal is to gather thousands of fans in one space to celebrate Ugandan humor on a grand scale.

Sammie and Shawa’s rise hasn’t been without hard work. They began performing at smaller events like Mayor's Gardens in Kyengera but quickly earned a spot at Comedy Store Uganda. What started as bi-weekly performances soon turned into weekly shows, thanks to their undeniable talent and growing popularity. Now, they believe a stadium show is the next logical step.

While the dream is ambitious, the duo is not rushing the process. "We want to be fully prepared before taking on such a massive challenge," Shawa emphasized. “If we’re not ready, we won’t do it. But fans are already asking, so the time might be soon.”

The comedians attribute their success to their strong bond and shared faith. By putting God first and maintaining clear guidelines in their partnership, they’ve built a solid foundation that keeps them grounded as they work toward their big goal. They also rely on a close-knit team of friends who help them navigate the challenges of the entertainment industry.
