The former Kampala Capital City Authority Lord Mayorship candidate and Democratic Party Research Assistant, Beatrice Kayanja, over the weekend introduced her lover Norbert Mao, President of the Democratic Party and Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs in a private Kukyala ceremony.

The once-secretive event took place over the weekend in Najjanankumbi along Entebbe Road, where Mao Norbert graciously visited the parents of Beatrice Kayanja. Our reliable sources reveal that the DP President presented a generous bulk cheque as dowry, turning the private ceremony into a lavish affair attended by a select group of family members and friends, including Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, the deputy speaker of Parliament.

While Beatrice Kayanja and Mao have faced their fair share of challenges in their relationship, the Kukyala serves as a significant step towards formalizing their commitment. The couple, who had been discreet about their romance, now gears up for the forthcoming Introduction and wedding ceremonies.

The love story unfolded when Beatrice, once Mao's research assistant, decided to part ways with her husband, Martin Kayanja, after successfully filing a divorce petition at the family court in Makindye, Kampala, in February 2021. Following her separation, she embarked on a new chapter in her life with her former boss, Norbert Mao.

Mao's own journey to this point involved the dissolution of his 16-year marriage to Naomi Acheing Adong by the High Court (Family) in 2019. Justice Godfrey Namundi granted the divorce on May 27, 2019, responding to Achieng's accusations of cruelty and desertion. Mao, who shared three children with Achieng, allegedly deserted his wife for eight years.

The official union of Norbert Mao and Beatrice Kayanja follows a controversial period, with Martin Kayanja accusing Mao of inappropriate late-night calls to his then-wife during their divorce proceedings in December 2021.
