Last night witnessed a bitter exchange between Ugandan singing sensation Chosen Becky and an event promoter called Galaxy, who allegedly failed to settle her performance fees at the Collins Hotel in Mukono yet she had already finished entertaining revellers.
The renowned "Bankuza" singer had been slated to grace the stage at the popular venue, punctually arriving to ensure a seamless performance. However, what ensued was anything but harmonious when, mid-performance, Becky sought clarification on her outstanding payment of Ugx 3 million, only to be met with a refusal from the promoter, identified as none other than the infamous Promoter Galaxy.
According to Becky, the funds were allocated by Promoter Galaxy's superior, yet he purportedly stubbornly declined to uphold their contractual agreement. Expressing her dismay, the singer revealed she had turned down other lucrative opportunities to honor her commitment at the Collins Hotel, only to find herself in a payment predicament.
A video shared across her social media channels captured the visibly disgruntled Becky on stage, moments before the promoter implored her to step down. This incident marks a recurring theme for the singer, who disclosed that several promoters had neglected to compensate her even during the festive Christmas season. Despite such challenges, Becky chose to soldier on silently, prioritizing her fans and reputation.
The singer shed light on the often overlooked dynamics of the entertainment industry, unveiling the underhanded tactics some promoters employ. She emphasized that fans are often unaware of the behind-the-scenes struggles, as unscrupulous promoters resort to coercion and blackmail when artists decline to perform at their events.
Expressing her disappointment in the lack of professionalism within the industry, Becky singled out Promoter Galaxy as a prime example of such behavior, labeling him as "fake." Venting her frustrations, she highlighted the impact of unpaid performances on her personal life, including the inability to meet her children's school fees obligations during the festive season.
