Uganda Christian University have today Wednesday 16th October, 2019 played to a 3:3 aggregate score with Bugema but progressed to the finals on a 4:2 penalty shoot outs score.
Following a 2:1 win over Bugema in the semi finals first leg played at in Mukono a week ago, UCU have today lost 2:1 to Bugema hence leaving the match tied on a 3:3 aggregate score. UCU went ahead in the 44th minute through Kizito Kaye's shot that went past Bugema's goalkeeper Mayanja Gideon.
However, the home side Bugema didn't sit back and their efforts saw them equalize in the 80th minute through Mugoma Frank before Isaac Musiima struck the winner at the stroke of full time.
Isaac Musiima's winning goal meant each side won it's game at home 2:1 and a 3:3 aggregate score meant that penalty shoot outs were the next show piece to witness.
In the penalty shoot outs, it was for Were Derrick's (a well known goalkeeper for Ssingo Saza team) heroics that saw him save two Penalties that helped UCU reach their maiden University football finals with a 4:2 score.
The saves also left the goalkeeper (Were Derrick) named the Pilsner Man of the match.
UCU had not gone passed the quarter finals for the last four years being ejected by Kampala international University in 2015, by Uganda martyrs University in 2016, 2017 and Kampala University last year.
Their quarter finals jinx was brought to an end when they went passed Busitema University.
UCU now waits for the winner between St. Lawrence University and Uganda Martyrs University at the latter's home in Nkozi on Friday 18th October, 2019.
The first leg played at St. Lawrence University's home ground Kavule-Mpigi ended in a one all stalemate.
This year's finals are scheduled to take place on Sunday 3rd September October, 2019 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
