Embattled city tycoon Charles Olim alias Sipapa and wife Shamirah will spend this year’s Christmas in prison after being charged with fresh counts.

Sipapa and Shamirah were remanded to Luzira prison until January 19, 2023 by Makindye grade one Court Magistrate Patience Tukundane.

The city socialite was charged with 10 fresh counts of money laundering in which prosecution alleges that he bought luxurious cars and other items using money obtained through criminal activities.

Sipapa, a music promoter, gold, and car dealer has been on remand since September 2022 with his wife Shamirah Nakiyemba on six counts of aggravated robbery.

Police arrested his wife who was termed as a conspirator in the usage of a harmful substance to render victims unconscious before robbing them of their property including money, laptops, phones, TV screens, and a golden belt.

Police’s Directorate of Crime Intelligence tracked down and arrested Sipapa in Tororo District after detectives said they recovered $70,000 (sh266m) of what they believed to be part of the stolen $429,000 (sh1.6b).

They allegedly committed the offences on the night of August 29, 2022, in Bunga, Kawuku Ggaba.

The couple will return to court on January 19th, 2023 for further hearing of their charges following thorough investigations.
