Kampala | Huawei Uganda has today on Friday morning awarded the participants in the National and Regional Competitions of Huawei ICT Competitions in an event that happened at Uganda Institute of Information and Communcations Technology in Nakawa, Kampala.
The event that graced by Her Excellency Major (rtd) Jessica Alupo the Vice President of Uganda alongside other dignitaries who included the Chinese Ambassador to Uganda H.E Zhang Lizhong, Mrs Zawedde Amina the Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Information Communications Technology and National Guidance, Mr. Irumba Kaija The Under Secretary Minister of Education and Sports, Professor Barnabas Nanangwe the Vice Chancellor of Makerere and Assoc. Prof. Simon Anguma Katrini the Deputy Vice Chancellor Muni University Arua.
Various teams of Ugandan students from Ugandan Universities were awarded for their innovations in various fields of ICT.
Huawei ICT Competitions are annual competitions where teams from 17 Ugandan universities show case their innovations, with each University ICT academy selecting the winning teams who thereafter compete at the national level. Winners at the national level represent Uganda in the Sub-Saharan Huawei ICT competitions.
Of the 17 students that represented Uganda in Sub-Saharan Africa Huawei ICT Competitions, 9 students managed to progress through and will be representing Uganda and Africa in the Huawei World ICT Competitions competing with students from other continents in this June 2022.
Among the teams that were awarded was the Kilotech from Makerere Univesity comprised of 3 students, who innovated an app using Huawei Technologies that can help test HIV and Malaria.
Nakyanzi Catherine, Rutanana Arnold and Nsengiyuma Wilberforce the students who innovated an app that tests HIV and Malaria after receiving their awards from Mrs Zawedde Amina the Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Information Communications Technology and National Guidance
Finalists of the 2021 Seeds for the Future Program a Huawei ICT Academy were also awarded with certificates of participation at the end of the ceremony.
In her remarks, H.E Major (rtd) Jessica Alupo congratulated the winners of the National winners of the ICT completion and also applauded the Ugandan Team that emerged winners in the Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa ICT competitions held in South Africa, wishing them a good luck in global competitions that will start in mid June.

The Huawei ICT training program has so far trained over 5000 students since its inception in 2016.
