The Court of Appeal has declined to release city lawyer Male Mabirizi after he sought an order to pursue his appeal cases following his arrest.
Mabirizi was arrested last week after contempt of court and since then, his lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde has been trying to secure his release and not serve the 18 months in jail.
Appearing before Justice Christopher Madrama this morning, it was ruled that Mabirizi did not make any appeal against his 18-month sentence but rather appealed against the Shs300m fine.
Male Mabirizi came to court today to receive a ruling on whether he should be released from Kitalya prison to come and defend his cases in the court of appeal.
Mabirizi applied to challenge the decision of the lower court which penalized him to pay 300m for contempt of court or be sent to prison, for 18 months.
