Douglas Smith, the CEO of Sportrise and Ibanda district born has hit the jackpot again after winning UGx 5,000,000 cash prize in an event held at Kampala Sheraton hotel where 20 were shortlisted to pitch their own products.
This competition was organized by the Ugandan Diaspora Community from (UK, Canada, US and more) to support startups in Uganda strictly. And the names under the whole thing are Chris Mukasa and Zinunula Sserumaga. This saw more startup owners that included many but not limited to those that manufacture mosquito repellants and more.
This is where Douglas Smith the CEO of Sportrise joined other startup owners to pitch his product. And later announced the winner of the inaugural competition. Smith will also undergo a 3 months mentorship program by established startup founders in the United Kingdom, United States and Uganda to prepare him to pitch for $250,000 to UK based Venture Capitalist.

Located in Ibanda, Western part of Uganda, Sportrise is an African inspired sports brand producing premium hand-crafted footballs. Put out and made for various groups of people, the feedback about Sportrise balls has been overwhelmingly positive.
The same brand has created jobs for many dedicated youths, people around Ibanda and beyond and more so, improved skills for the young through sports as it has set up various programs. Sportrise has also put up events that inspire and bring people together like Sportrise Cup.
