Blogger and Uganda government critic Fred Lumbuye Kajubi has finally been released from detention in Turkey after almost three months of everyone wondering about his whereabouts.
The news was confirmed by Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake and National Unity Platform through their social media pages.
“Finally Fred Lumbuye Kajjubi has gained his freedom,” Zaake tweeted.
The release ends three months of controversy surrounding his mysterious disappearance. In August, the government indicated that Lumbuye was set to be deported back to Uganda to face charges.
This came amid reports that Lumbuye had secretively been deported to Uganda and was being held at an army detention centre in Gulu.
National Unity Platform (NUP) took up the matter of Lumbuye and hired a lawyer from Turkey to handle the controversy surrounding his impending deportation.
"We are glad to learn that after several months of being held under detention, comrade Lumbuye Fred has been finally set free. We are very grateful to the legal team, the diaspora team and all people of good will who did everything to ensure that Mr. Lumbuye regains his freedom".- they tweeted.
