Seven Time Uganda Premier League Champions Express FC will open their campaign in the CECAFA Kagame Club Cup with a fixture against South Sudan's Atlabara FC today Monday 2nd August,2021 at the Azam Complex Chamazi in Dar-es.Salaam, Tanzania.
Express FC remains a much fancied side going into the match having made it to the finals of the tournament twice (1994 &1996) whereas South Sudan's outfit Atlabara FC has only managed a quarter final finish once in the tournament.
The two sides will be meeting for the very first side and Express FC head coach Wasswa Bbosa is optimistic they will win this match and the trophy at large.
"I Am so happy to have joined the camp, the mood here is great, the players are fine and they know we're all here to win the trophy" Wasswa noted.
Midfielder and newly named club assistant captain Abel Eturede, striker George Ssenkaaba, new signings Joseph Akandwanaho and Joel Mutakubwa are all available for selection.
The game which kicks off at 4pm will also be televised live on Azam TV.
On the other hand however, defending champions KCCA FC will also kick start their campaign to defend the title with a fixture against home side Azam FC at 7pm.
Speaking ahead of the match, KCCA FC head coach Morley Bwekwaso said he knows Azam are a well prepared side who knows what threat KCCA has had over them in the recent encounters and therefore should not be an easy nut to crack.
The coach and players who include Bright Anukani, Peter Magambo, Musa Ramathan, Julius Poloto and Sam Ssenyonjo have already joined the camp in Tanzania from Ethiopia where they were engaged in the the CECAFA Senior Challenge Tournament.
Morley Bwekwaso says they are in a must win situation going into the first match if they are to enlight the chances to defend the title.
The 2021 Kagame Interclub Cup is the ongoing 43rd edition of the Kagame Interclub Cup, a football competition for clubs in East and Central Africa, which is organised by CECAFA. It is to take place in Tanzania from 1 to 14 August 2021.
