FUFA Fulfills Pledge of Paying The Sand Cranes, Each Paid 7.7 Million

FUFA has paid each member of the 24 man Uganda Sand Cranes Contingent (National Beach Soccer Team) for their exceptional performance at the 2021 AFCON BEACH Soccer Finals in Senegal. Uganda finished 4th at the tournament. Each member of the Contingent has been paid UGX 7.7m for the 22 days spent in camp preparing for and taking part in the tournament.

FUFA said.. "The payment made includes camp allowances, appearance fees, winning bonuses for matches and reaching the Semi-finals."

Uganda participated in its ever first AFCON Beach Soccer Cup of Nations held in Senegal a fortnight ago and finished fourth at the tournament.

Uganda Sand Cranes played four matches at their debut tournament winning one and losing three. They beat Tanzania 4:3 in the second match at the tournament after losing 5:1 to hosts Senegal. Uganda thus finished second behind Senegal who won all of their group matches.

In the semi finals, Uganda Sand Cranes lost lost 6:3 to Mozambique and had to play in the classification match against Morocco who lost the other Semi final to Senegal. Uganda lost 5:3 in the classification match.

Senegal beat Mozambique 4:1 to finish champions and the two finalists thus qualify for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup to take place in August in Russia.

The milestone means Uganda National teams have made it to the AFCON finals on six occasions under Magogo's regime. Uganda Cranes qualified for AFCON (2017,2019), The Uganda Cubs (U-17) in 2018 and 2021, Uganda Hippos (U-20) in 2021 and the Sand Cranes (2021).
