Police in Nagalama have arrested one suspect while over 15 others are still on the run after thugs broke into the Late Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga’s home running away with phones and UGX 250k last night and documents.
According to Kampala Metropolitan deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the aggravated robbery incident happened at Kyabakadde village, Kyabakade Parish in Kyampisi Sub-county, Mukono district on Friday morning at around 1 am.
“The territorial Police of Nagalama are investigating an incident of an aggravated robbery that occurred today around 1 am at the ancestral home of the Late Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga located at Kyabakadde village, Kyabakade Parish in Kyampisi Sub-county, Mukono District,” Owoyesigire said.
Police further established that established that the yet to be identified thugs, who were more than 15 in number, armed with pangas, sticks and breaking implements, dressed in plain clothes wearing face masks, attacked the residence at Kyabakadde village in the night of Thursday April 15, 2021.
“They gained entry of the Late Archbishop’s residence after cutting the perimeter fence,” added Owoyesigire.
He furthered that the thugs attacked the occupants in the house and robbed mobile phones, cash worth UGX250,000 from two victims.
The suspects later tied the victims before they fled. Police says they were able to recover some exhibits at the scene and also arrested one suspect.
“We have recorded all relevant statements. Investigations are ongoing to have the rest of the suspects arrested and produced before courts of law,” Luke Owoyesigyire further stated.
Dr. Cyprian Kizito born on January 19, 1953, was a Ugandan Roman Catholic prelate who served as Archbishop of Kampala from 2006 to 2021.
