Breaking news coming in on the Blizz news desk indicates how Uganda Cranes captain Denis Masinde Onyango has hanged up the gloves on the national team.
The Mamelodi Sundowns’ shot stopper has on Monday 12th painfully announced through his socials how he had made up to end his 16 year tenure as the safe hands of the Uganda Cranes.
It is reported that the failure of the Uganda Cranes to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations and the recent bitter fallout with the Fufa president Moses Magogo over the way he handles football matters in the country are among the reasons as to why the Africa’s best goalkeeper has decided to retire from the national team.
The 2016 Caf African Footballer of the year has been part of the national team since 2005 and represented the team at the two Africa Cup of Nations – 2017 and 2019.
He started out his career at SC Villa in 2004 and has since played for Ethiopia’s St. George, SuperSport United and Mpumalanga Black Aces, Bidvest Wits and Sundowns.
The shocking news comes just days when the national team vice-skipper Hassan Wasswa Mawanda too retired from the national team.
"It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing my retirement from international football. After much consideration, my family, managers and I, decided it was in my best interest to hang my gloves on my beloved Cranes 🇺🇬 Big thanks to every Ugandan over the years," tweeted Denis Onyango.
